"Great experience. After seeing Chef Ben on the news I asked my parents for a gift certificate for a present. My wife and I went and had a great time. Chef Ben is very polite, knowledgeable and takes his time to make sure you understand. Lessons are held in his private kitchen at a town house in Columbia MD. Even though I've spent 10 years watching the food network and taking online culinary classes, I learned a lot. There is no substitute for working next to a real Chef."

"Dear Ben,

This is to tell you that how much Anne and I enjoyed the day we spent in your kitchen. We’d read your credential, so we were not surprised by your skills as a chef. What we hadn’t expected was your cordiality as a host, students-do-it teaching, and ability to make us feel like master chefs ourselves.

Answering your introductory questionnaire, we asked you to teach us to make a meal that would satisfy both an omnivore and a vegetarian. From your menu, we chose the following: hearts of palm salad, green bean almandine, asparagus soup, grilled vegetable, crab cake, and baked pear.

Your instruction included not only the planning, preparation and timing of each of the six dishes, but also the importance of presentation. You wisely took pictures of us cooking and of the beautiful meal before we began to devour “our” creation. I happily forwarded those pix of the dinner and of her father in a chef’s apron to my daughter- who had graciously given us Chef Ben as present.

You didn’t greet us wearing a gift ribbon, though you were a quite a good one. As a vegetarian, I never foresaw myself as an expert at making your fabulous crab cake, though now I’m a quite good one.
